Cross Attack Pinned Pieces
A cross attack on a pinned piece is an uncommon tactic. It occurs where one piece is pinned by another, usually a Queen pinning the other Queen. The Queen is pinned along one diagonal or row/column. If the Queen is attacked along another diagonal or another direction of a rank or file, it cannot take the piece that attacks it. There are occasional cases where this wins a piece.
