Tripled Pawns

Tripled pawns are like doubled pawns, only there are 3 of them. There are three pawns lined up on the same file. Tripled pawns are much less common that doubled pawns, but they do occur.

Tripled pawn formations are very weak. They cannot defend each other. Usually the triplets are also isolated pawns, meaning that they can only be defended by pieces.
