Control the Center
Control of the center is a very advanced chess concept that refers to how much power you are exerting on the center of the board. This strategy is mainly relevant to the Opening and the Middlegame, less so the Endgame.
The general idea of this strategy is that whoever has more control of the central parts of the board, also generally has more control of the entire board. With more control, there are more options, and there is advantage.
The center can be controlled directly by occupying the center, such as by having your pawns in the middle. Or the center can be controlled remotely from a distance, such as by Bishops, Knights, and Rooks that are bearing down on the central squares.
