Signing Scoresheets

In a chess tournament, both players are supposed to sign the written scoresheet to record the result. The usual sequence of events is:

  • Resigns or checkmate or drawn
  • Shake hands
  • Say “thank you for the game”
  • Write the result on the scoresheet
  • Sign your own scoresheet
  • Pass the scoresheets to each other for their signature

Good etiquette. It’s not really that difficult. Humility if you get a win, dignity if you lose.
