Rook Backwards Moves
Can the Rooks move backwards in chess? Yes, a Rook can always move backwards or forwards (and sideways), horizontally or vertically, as many times in either direction. Rooks can also capture backwards. The only piece in chess that cannot move backwards in chess is the pawns, which are never allowed to move back.
