Can Queens Jump?

Can the Queen jump in chess? No, it cannot legally do a Knight-like jump move. The Queen can move like a Bishop (diagonally) or a Rook (horizontally/vertically), but not like a Knight. See also:

Queens also cannot jump over any pieces as part of their normal moves. The Queen slides along empty squares in any of 8 possible directions (4 diagonals, left, right, up, down) until it reaches the edge of the board, or another piece. If it reaches an enemy piece, it cannot jump it, but it can take that piece, and then cannot go any further. If the Queen reaches one of its own pieces, it has to stop on the square before that piece (no self-captures are allowed).
