Topalov Variation

The Topalov Variation arises in the Queen Pawn Games. It usually occurs for Black when White chooses Queen Pawn delayed c4 lines. The simplest such position is: 1.d4 Nf6, 2.Nf3, where by avoiding 2.c4, White has avoided many of the main-line Indian Defences (See: Anti-Indian Variations).

This line is regarded as quite sound, and also quite tactical and aggressive. Black gets a headstart on the queenside expansion, which usually starts later in the Benoni.
