The idea with the “Delayed Benoni” is for Black to play the Benoni, but for Black to only play it if Black can avoid the fearsome variations of the “Four Pawns Attack” and the “Taimanov Benoni” (with Bb5+). Hence, Black delays playing c5 by one move, only playing c5 after White has played Nf3 (which blocks the "f’ pawn and prevents the f4 variations for White).
