Damiano’s Defence

A dubious opening where Black protects the attacked e5 pawn by playing f6. The White move Nxe5 is an inviting sacrifice.

The sacrifice 3.Nxe5 looks very inviting. Indeed, if accepted, White has a great attack with Qh5+ and Qxe5, with Bc4 and/or Bg5 to come. But Black can actually decline the sacrifice.

White has to be careful with a trap here. Qh5+ looks strong but is a losing move.
