The Catalan System, often called just the “Catalan”, is a chess opening where White plays “1.d4” and then fianchetto’s the King bishop with “g3”. There is some flexibility in the move order, and this opening may arise by transposition from starting moves such as “1.g3” or “1.Nf3” (Reti Opening) if White subsequently plays “d4”.
