The Bogo-Indian Defence is a black defence against the Queen Pawn game that involves the characteristic bishop check (Bb4+). Black can play this check if White avoids the Nimzo-Indian by avoiding “3.Nc3”, playing instead “3.Nf3”.

The Bogo-Indian has quite a good reputation. It is certainly a playable defense option at the club tournament level and appears regularly in master games.
